Moon Tide Dyers
Moon Tide Dyers started with the collaboration of two artists, Maura Cronin and Abbie Chambers who first met in the Artisanry School at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth, studying textile design. In 2005, they began creatively collaborating in their separate studios. While exchanging knowledge of sewing and dyeing techniques, they came up with some prototypes for women's t-shirts. A short run of about 30 experimental t-shirts sold out at one of the New Bedford Open Studios and people were left wanting more!
Moon Tide Dyers garments are all made locally in the south coast. All garments are designed and sampled in our studios in New Bedford. We use local factories in Fall River when we need to sew and dye our clothing in batches of 100-200 garments. From sewing the first samples, dyeing color swatches, trying different dye patterns and placement, grading each pattern by hand, the labor intensive business of production, and ultimately the sale to the customer, Moon Tide is involved in every step.
Moon Tide's garments use a soft, 4-way stretch jersey fabric that is stylish enough to wear for special occasions, yet soft and cozy enough for lounging around. Their tops are designed to take you from your yoga class to a night out on the town. They are machine washable and ideal for travel. Worn by grandmothers and little sisters alike, the line has something for everyone. Color and pattern vary slightly making each garment completely one of a kind.
